Charles Edward Bird, better known as “Charlie”, started with the Winter Haven Police Department on February 7, 1990 as a Police Officer I.  He was an Emergency Response Team member for 5 years from 1991 to 1996.  He served in the Narcotics Unit known at that time as Delta from 1994 till 1996, at which time he was transferred to the Detective Division.   After 3 years there, he was promoted to Sergeant and went back to Patrol.  He became an Acting Lieutenant in May 2002 and was promoted to full Lieutenant almost 5 months later.  In July 2004 he was promoted to his current rank of Captain and was commander of the Uniform Services Bureau.  Currently he commands the Support Services Bureau.

Captain Bird graduated from Auburndale High School and is enrolled at Saint Leo College for the purpose of obtaining his Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice.  He plans to continue in the Master’s Program after obtaining his degree.
